Each test has distinct features tailored to the purpose of the exam, but they all assess English proficiency in listening, reading, speaking, and writing. This course at NiML Mansehra is designed to guide students through all these test types, ensuring thorough preparation for each.
PTE Academic:
Overview:
PTE Academic is an English language proficiency test primarily used for university admissions, professional registrations, and visa applications for English-speaking countries. It assesses listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills in an integrated manner. The test is entirely computer-based, and the questions are scored using advanced algorithms.
PTE Academic Question Types:
Speaking and Writing Section (Combined):
- Personal Introduction: A brief recording where you introduce yourself. It does not contribute to the score but is provided to institutions.
- Read Aloud: You are required to read a short passage aloud. This assesses pronunciation, fluency, and intonation.
- Repeat Sentence: You will hear a sentence and must repeat it as accurately as possible. This evaluates listening and speaking skills.
- Describe Image: You will see an image (graph, chart, map, etc.) and describe it in detail. This tests your ability to interpret visual data and express it coherently.
- Re-tell Lecture: You will listen to an academic lecture and then re-tell it in your own words. This assesses listening, speaking, and summarization skills.
- Answer Short Question: A brief question will be asked, and you need to respond with a single word or short phrase.
- Summarize Written Text: A reading passage is given, and you must summarize it in a sentence or two, evaluating your ability to condense information while maintaining meaning.
- Essay Writing (20 minutes): Write an essay on a given topic. This tests your writing skills, coherence, and grammar.
Reading Section:
- Multiple-choice Questions (Single Answer): You will answer multiple-choice questions based on a reading passage.
- Multiple-choice Questions (Multiple Answer): Answer multiple-choice questions, but there may be more than one correct answer.
- Re-order Paragraphs: Sentences are scrambled, and you need to rearrange them in the correct order.
- Fill in the Blanks: You will be asked to complete a text by filling in blanks using the appropriate words.
Listening Section:
- Summarize Spoken Text: You will listen to an academic lecture and summarize it in a few sentences.
- Multiple-choice Questions: Answer multiple-choice questions based on a recording.
- Fill in the Blanks: Listen to an audio recording and fill in missing words in a transcript.
- Highlight Correct Summary: After listening to a recording, choose the best summary of the passage.
- Select Missing Word: Listen to a recording and select the missing word that completes the sentence.
- Write from Dictation: Listen to a sentence and write it down exactly as you hear it.

- Picture Description: You will be shown a picture and asked to describe it. This tests speaking fluency and descriptive skills.

Listening Section:

- Listening for Details: Listen to recordings and select the correct answer based on details.
Reading Section:

The test format, scoring, and content are identical to the PTE Academic, but it is taken in a secure, approved testing center that complies with UKVI regulations.
PTE UKVI Question Types:
The PTE UKVI has the same question types as PTE Academic, but the primary difference is the regulatory requirements and the test-taking location.
